Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni

The Italian architects and designers brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni are among the biggest names in modern Italian design. Achille and Pier Giacomo both studied architecture at the Polytechnic of Milan, and after their studies they started working as architects and artists. They also worked there as teachers. Achille and his brother designed for companies such as Alessi, Kartell, Zanotta, Flos, Bernini and Siemens.

Their collaborations were productive, innovative and their designs were often radical and witty. Some of their most famous works include the Mezzadro chair with tractor seat and many lighting designs for Flos, including the Snoopy table lamp and the Toio floor lamp, which is illuminated by a car headlight. Pier Giacomo won six Compasso d'Oro awards during his career, and Achille was awarded the prestigious design prize nine times.
