Alissia Melka-Teichroew & Jan Habraken

Alissia Melka-Teichroew graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design (USA) with a Master's degree in Industrial Design. She spent part of her life in Paris, San Francisco and Boston, finally settling in New York, which has become her real home. Soon after her graduation, she founded ALISSIA Design, a firm characterized by timeless and thoughtful designs. She pursues design innovation, trends and materials. She brings her own unique and charismatic personality to her work. Her products are sophisticated and witty: she has produced, for example, a diamond ring in acrylic candy, ceramic plates folded into easy-to-grasp shapes (Handful of Plates), a mirror that transports the viewer's face through an iconic image of female beauty (ME-ror). Her recent projects include Tree Hooked, a modular series of branching garment hooks, on which she collaborates with Jan Habraken of Jan Habraken Studio. This collaboration is also personal, as Alissia and Jan were married in October 2006.

Dutch designer Jan Habraken set up his own design studio in New York, where he came from the Netherlands. Before coming to New York, Habraken was a partner in the successful multidisciplinary design studio WATdesign.
