Gino Colombini

Italian designer Gino Colombini was born in 1915 and became Kartell's technical director in 1953. Founded by chemical engineer Giulio Castelli, Kartell has always specialised in the production of objects made of plastic and remains today the leading design company working with this material. It produced utilitarian appliances and objects made of plastic that were beautifully designed products, no longer gloomy and colourless, but colourful and modern. Colombini designed many of these plastic objects. He tested the properties and limits of the material, creating bright, colorful products that revolutionized the home. Colombini, whose creations are now on display at New York's Museum of Modern Art, won several Copmassi d'Oro awards during his tenure at Kartell, serving as technical director until 1960.
