Hilary Birkbeck

He studied furniture design at the Birmingham Institute for Art and Design in the 1970s, from where he went on to gain experience at Conran Associates, Pieff Furniture Ltd, Pel Ltd. He has a wide range of experience in the development studio environment, particularly in the swivel office chair industry. As a senior design consultant he has worked for a number of companies in Italy, USA, Poland, UK and Ukraine.For the last few years he has been patenting his own mechanisms for swivel office chairs, which are manufactured in the USA, and creating conceptual solutions for the use of space in open-space workplaces. He has been a member of the influential Chartered Society of Designers for over a decade.
