Joris Laarman


Joris Laarman was born in 1979 in the countryside of the Netherlands. After graduating with honours from the renowned Design Academy in Eindhoven, he founded Joris Laarmaan Lab in 2004. Located in Amsterdam, Laarmaan works on industrial design for clients such as Vitra and Flos. In 2011, he was awarded by the Wall Street Journal as Innovator of the Year in the field of design and design.


He has contributed articles to Domus magazine and has been a guest lecturer at various European universities such as the Architectural Association London, Rietveld Academy Amsterdam and Design Academy Eindhoven. Laarmaan creates and produces experimental works in collaboration with various scientists, engineers and craftsmen from around the world. He works with designs created through technologies such as CNC systems, 3D printing, robotics and simulation software. Laarmaan's designs are in permanent collections and exhibitions at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum London and the Centre Pompidou Paris.
