Marc Newson
Newson was born in Sydney and studied jewellery and sculpture at the Sydney College of the Arts. In 1986 he was awarded a grant from the Crafts Council of Australia and held his first exhibition. The following year he moved to Tokyo, where he worked mainly with the design company Idée, creating works such as the Super Guppy lamp (1987) and the Orgone salon (1989). In 1991 he moved to Paris, where he set up a studio.
He is currently Professor of Design at the Sydney College of the Arts and Creative Director of Qantas. In 2005 he was selected as one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people. Each year he races one of his four historic sports cars - Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Ferrari and Cisitalia in the Italian Mille Miglia. Newson has been named a recipient of the Order of the British Empire and the Distinguished Service Medal for Design. He can be found in our Magis collections.
