Martin Eisler

Martin Eisler was born in Vienna in 1913, the son of the famous art historian Max Eisler, and studied in Vienna as a pupil of the famous architects Oskar Strnad and Clemens Holzmeister. In 1938 he moved to Buenos Aires, where he immediately held his first exhibition of drawings and furniture at the Mueller Gallery, which two years later became the future Salon of Fine Arts at the Palais de Glace. In 1945, he founded the company Interieur with Arnold Hackel, which sold furniture and objects designed by the duo, and thus began his career as a designer. His travels also took him to Brazil, where in 1955 he joined Carl Hauner and became artistic director of Forma in São Paulo. The Brazilian experience deepened Eisler's interest in exotic woods and the techniques of painting and varnishing wood, glass and bronze.

The two Eisler companies began working in synergy and produced highly successful furniture in both Argentina and Brazil, to the point that he signed a contract for Knoll International in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Eisler is also appreciated as an architect whose projects are characterized by an all-encompassing creativity that personalizes every detail, from construction to furnishings. In addition, he also works as a set designer and opera director. Among the most famous pieces of his design are the REVERSÍVEL and COSTELA chairs, which won the prestigious Compasso d'Oro award in Milan.
