Pontus NY
Pontus became interested in design in his childhood, when he tried his hand at his grandfather's pottery workshop. Later he also trained at HDK - School of Craft and Design. Today, he works on everything from housing to cutlery to vehicles, based on the fundamental belief that design is a multi-sensory discipline where all the senses can be involved.
The goal of design, he says, is to create a way for the user to have a new or better experience of their environment. On the one hand it is a service to society, on the other it provides social commentary. Pontus Ny argues that good design will endure when it is consumed and used day after day, year after year. It can stand up to rapidly changing trends because it has a form and approach that takes the observer beyond what he or she expects. This guides his work and creates timeless pieces.
