Sami Kallio
Sami Kallio was born in Helsinki, Finland in 1975 and grew up in Sweden where he honed his skills in traditional woodworking crafts such as hot pressing and wood turning. He graduated from the Gothenburg School of Design and Crafts. His work combines Finnish design heritage with Swedish tradition. Kallio has participated in many exhibitions and at the Stockholm Furniture Fair he impressed with his collection The Finnish Blood In Me. He combines his deep understanding of wood with artistic craftsmanship and modern methods. He complements traditional shapes with industrial elements and modern details.
He strives for a balance between the past and the present, between an emphasis on human needs and machine production. Kallio designs furniture and interiors that translate classic shapes into contemporary expressions with an industrial aesthetic that resonates with a modern-minded audience. Man and machine play a role in many of Kallio's creations. His philosophy is best recognised in the Milla chair he created for Crassevig.
