Susanne Grønlund
Susanne Grønlund is a Danish designer who enjoys combining Scandinavian traditions with playful style and exploring the boundaries of different materials. Grønlund graduated from the Danish School of Design in 1991 and set up her own studio in Copenhagen. Throughout her career, she has won a number of major design awards such as the Red Dot Award, the Norwegian Design Council Award and the Good Design Award. Her work always questions the materials she uses, often pushing the boundaries of what is physically possible. Her amazing Aiko collection, created for Softline, is a good example. The chairs are able to use the special properties of metal to create extraordinary geometric designs that bring a sense of strength, lightness, flexibility and seating comfort - all at the same time.
Susanne Grønlund is best described as a practical designer who considers design an aesthetically pleasing craft. When she starts a new project, she often experiments directly with materials and creates physical models in her studio that she develops into unique new designs. It is essential to her that the design be designed for more than purely aesthetic reasons. It must also fulfil a function. And she is never satisfied until the design and the function it serves have come together to create a unique whole.
