Valerio Sommella

Valerio Sommella is an Italian industrial designer who was born in Cortona, Tuscany, and grew up in Milan, where he graduated with honours from the design department of the Politechnico di Milano. He spent the first years of his career collecting apprenticeships between Milan and Amsterdam before setting up his studio in 2009. He works with Italian and international companies, designing products ranging from lighting to furniture, consumer electronics to accessories.

He considers each project as an opportunity to express his idea of design that explores the language of objects through formal, material and technological research. The products he designs are not described as chapters of a book, but as short stories of various kinds, each with its own plot, characters and ending. Over the years he has worked for companies such as Alessi, Alcantara, Apple, Moooi, Kundalini, Honda, Falmec, Konica Minolta, Panasonic, Penta, Plust, Slide and many others.
