FIAM
Luxury glass furniture FIAM
Timeless design from Italy
The Italian company FIAM was founded in 1973 by Vittorio Livi. It designs, develops and manufactures furniture made of bent glass. By creating a combination of quality workmanship and industrial processes, tradition and innovation in handcraft and design intersect. This material with enormous potential has not been used much in the furniture world - only for the production of small parts or ornaments, but thanks to the creative mind of the young Vittorio Livi, his dream began to take on concrete dimensions - glass became a unique material in the world of artistic design for the production of furniture. Amazingly strong and transparent at the same time, it creates timeless design objects. FIAM recognises the ability of designers to take risks in creating form and takes this as a welcome challenge to their expertise. To produce some pieces, FIAM has even created groundbreaking technologies to help craftsmen pioneer in terms of tools and materials, enabling them to meet the increasingly demanding requirements of designers who want to work with this unique material.
Vittorio Livi founds FIAM
Vittorio Livi has always had one passion: glass. Fullet, the very first company he founded, produced coloured glass for the furniture industry, followed by a series of companies: Artiglass, Curvovetro, Cromoglass and Vellutart. The merger between these companies in 1973 resulted in FIAM, the first company to produce curved glass objects for the home. Thanks to its technology and its partnerships with leading international designers, FIAM has become a leader in the industry and some of its products are even exhibited in twenty-five museums around the world. After overseeing the restoration of the fortified city of Montegridolfo (dating from the 7th century BC), Vittorio Livi bought Villa Miralfiore, a historic building in Pesaro built in 1260, in 1992 and renovated it. Part of the villa is dedicated to the "Spazio Miralfiore", a museum of bent glass artworks by Livi and many Italian and international artists.
In addition, Vittorio Livi is also a talented sculptor. His well-known works such as Ipotenusa, Camini delle fate, the Cross of Pesaro, Gesto or Cuore can be found in his own museum Spazio Miralfiore or even in museums worldwide dedicated to art objects.
Designers for FIAM
Great names in the world of design have worked with the FIAM brand over the years to produce furniture made of curved glass. In addition to the founder Vittorio Livi himself, for example, Simone Bonanni, Cini Boeri, Angelo Cortesi, Nicola de Ponti, Marcel Wanders Studio, Enzo Mari, Philippe Starc and others have left their signature in glass.
