MAGIS
Design leader MAGIS
Italian furniture with tradition
The Italian company Magis was founded in 1976 by Eugenio Perazza, originally as a small family business. However, the brand quickly found its place in European product design and is regularly awarded in prestigious design competitions. The company's domain has become plastic furniture and accessories, which have been decorating homes, offices and commercial spaces for over 40 years, and which, in addition to original design, the highest quality and precision workmanship, are characterised by environmental friendliness, which is one of the company's priorities. The Magis portfolio boasts a wide range of products, from affordable to expensive premium pieces. Each product is unique, aesthetic, functional and meets the most stringent manufacturing and environmental standards.
Magis brand philosophy
Although Magis is now a huge international design laboratory, it still holds on to its family values, which is reflected in its relationship with both employees and partners. Magis is constantly pushing the boundaries of design and looking for new innovative production technologies to supply the market with quality furniture with a long life. In addition, the production itself is still carried out in Italy, which allows the company to have a direct influence and control over quality.
Each of Magis ' design projects must meet the highest standards. The product must be beautiful, functional and embody a strong idea. Magis believes in the power of family values, in helping each other, growing together and working together. The brand strives to build long-lasting and rewarding relationships with its employees, customers and partners. Moreover, the products are still manufactured in Italy, which contributes to the overall cohesion of the community.
Designers at Magis
To live up to its vision, Magis is always on the lookout for exceptional design talent. The worldwide success of MAGIS was marked by the Bombo collection by Stefano Giovannoni presented in 1996, the Chair One chair by Konstantin Grcic in 2003 and the Steelwood collection by the Bouroullec brothers presented in 2008. Completely unique is the concept of children's design furniture in the separate Me Too range, which Magis brought in 2004 and permanently incorporated into its production. The company does not only reach out to world-renowned designers, but also gives a number of students and their projects a chance to shine.

A little history
Magis - from 1976 until today. For more than 30 years pushing the boundaries of design. The birthplace of Magis is Motta di Livenza, a small town in the heart of the Veneto region in north-eastern Italy. For centuries, this region has stood out for its remarkable craftsmanship, the creativity of its local people and its thriving trade. In the heart of this vibrant region, Eugenio Perazza has made his dream of a modern design company a reality. He has created a place where true design and technological innovation go hand in hand to enrich people's lives with beautiful, useful and authentic products. The name of the company itself expresses this idea. Magis is a Latin word that means "more than".
In 1996, family members Barbara Minetto and Alberto Perazza joined the company. The company is based on family values, appreciation, loyalty, respect and a great sense of community. This extends to all relationships, whether with employees, designers, or partners of the company. In 2010 the company moved to its new headquarters in Torre di Mosto. The space of approximately 98,000 m² provided a new home for the logistics and assembly departments as well as all the offices. The spacious showroom allowed partners and customers to see the iconic products for themselves and get an even better picture of the company's philosophy. In 2016, Alberto Perazza was appointed CEO of the company. This natural transition marked the beginning of a new chapter for the entire brand, which, although changing, still remains true to its core values: to be a creative and progressive voice of design.
Iconic furniture icons
1994- Bottle. Putting Magis on the international design map.
The Bottle Stand represents an important point in Magis history. The stackable rack was the first product designed by designer Jasper Morrison and also marked the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship. The Bottle piece was a huge commercial success, winning several design awards and even being exhibited in several museums around the world, such as MoMa in New York.
1997 - Bombo. The most copied bar stool of all time
Bombo is a perfect example of how a single masterpiece can change the perception of an entire product category. Developed in collaboration with Stefano Giovannoni, the Bombo bar stool has been a huge commercial success since the day it was launched. Today, Bombo can be found in homes, bars and restaurants around the world.
2000 - Air-Chair. Technological innovation meets
sophisticated design
The Air-Chair is the manifestation of a technological revolution. Thanks to the idea of lightness and stability, Jasper Morrison, in collaboration with Magis, developed the first chair using air-moulding technology. This sophisticated manufacturing method involves injecting gas into a mould along with glass fibre reinforced polypropylene. The chair is therefore highly durable yet very lightweight. The design of Air-Chair is simple, formal, clean, linear and fundamental. Air-Chair is a timeless classic that is super practical, it is also easy to move, stackable and suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
2003 - Chair_One. Creating an icon takes courage.
Unlike other design objects, Chair_One reflects some of the attributes we use most: courage, boldness, perseverance and belief in the right thing. When MAGIS introduced Chair_One, people thought it was an experiment, a work of art at best. Today, Chair_One is a widely recognized design classic, featured in the most prestigious museums and used in homes, offices and restaurants around the world. Konstantin Grcic has created this unique design piece using the potential of die-casting: a precision technology with the ability to produce complex three-dimensional shapes. Finding the right mold was a long and complicated journey, but the result was an exceptional chair that provides the greatest possible comfort using the least amount of material.
2004 - Magis Kids. The first collection for children.
The origin of Magis Kids is actually a family story. Eugenio Perazza wanted to give his granddaughter Anna a desk. However, he realised that there was no suitable designer furniture for children that was easy to use and that also offered educational value. So Eugenio decided to design and produce a special range of furniture for children that would meet his criteria. The ambition of the collection was to develop each product through the eyes of a child, not by simply scaling down existing design objects. In collaboration with design aces such as Enzo Mari, Javier Mariscal and Eero Aarnio, a colourful, amazing and happy world came to life. From lightweight chairs to storage spaces, from modular beds to animals to toys. Magis Kids allows children to express their creativity in their natural childlike way.
2005 - Puppy. A four-legged friend for creativity.
Puppy is a small puppy by designer Eero Aarnio, who was inspired by the way children draw puppies. Head, body, legs and tail - that's it. Colourful, durable and playful. Not only children fell in love with the colourful four-legged friend made of polypropylene, but also designers and artists. Today, Puppy comes in several sizes and unique designs.
2008 - Steelwood. Acombination of two exceptional materials.
Steelwood is the result of great design, innovation and true craftsmanship. By thoughtfully combining two traditional materials, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have created a simple yet elegant chair. The seat and legs are made of wood. The back is made of steel. It sounds simple, but shaping a Steelwood chair requires sophisticated engineering and technical perfection. Skilled metalworkers use a series of nine different mechanical processes to gradually shape the back. This sophisticated process gives the Steelwood chair a timeless and elegant look. One chair eventually evolved into a beautiful collection of products including chairs, tables, coat racks and a shelving system.
2010 - Spun. A chair as a work of art.
"In everything we do, we want to push the boundaries of design and create useful everyday objects that could also be works of art. Spun is a key example of how this ambition manifests itself", Magis let himself be heard. Spun is a truly exceptional piece of furniture. It uses a rotational moulding technique to shape the plastic. When upright, Spun appears to be a beautiful static sculpture, then when leaning on its side it allows it to spin in a complete circle. In short, Spun is a unique chair that looks like art and is fun to sit on."
2014 - Officina. Rediscovering an ancient technique
For thousands of years, an endless number of everyday objects and decorative artifacts have been created with iron forging. With the Officina collection, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have given a modern twist to this ancient manufacturing process, turning it into an exceptional design language. The core element of Officina is the wrought iron support system. The combination of this ancient metal with modern shapes and materials makes this collection unique. All Officina products, from chairs to tables, sofas and benches, combine industrial design with an elegant spirit. They therefore adapt perfectly to almost any environment.
2018-Bureaurama. Redefining workspaces
Offices are dynamic and ever-changing places. Bureaurama, designed by Jerszy Seymour, is a beautiful and practical collection of lightweight stools and tables that easily adapt to many work and social situations. This philosophy is perfectly reflected in the round table: when used alone, the table is a place for individual focused work. However, by arranging several tables together, one can create one large table that is suitable for collaboration and sharing ideas. Bureaurama is made of fully recyclable welded aluminium.
2020 - Costume. Sofa 2.0
On many levels, Costume, designed by Stefan Diez, is a story of rethinking what a sofa should look like. A piece of furniture that features a practical design suitable for a family environment and that also has the lowest possible impact on the environment. Costume represents change, it's a modular system that changes and grows to suit the needs and preferences of its users. The sofa is made from durable, 100% recycled polypropylene. The recessed pocket springs also minimise the use of synthetic foam, an environmentally problematic material. The upholstery can also be easily replaced or washed. In short, Costume is a sofa as it should be, everything is well thought out, which leads to maximizing its life.
