Design stackable chair BELL
BELL is not just an ordinary chair, BELL is a symbol of responsibility
TheBELL chair by renowned designer Konstantin Grcic is unique because it is made from recycled polypropylene obtained from the waste that Magis produces as a furniture manufacturer and from a local car factory. The chair can also be 100% recycled again. BELL is practical, stackable, suitable for indoors or outdoors and is available in three contemporary colours. Its versatile design makes it suitable not only for home interiors and exteriors, but also for commercial use - in restaurants or for events and functions.
Mr. Grcic, what makes the BELL chair unique?
"The BELL project has turned into much more than just designing a chair. We realised that there were certain issues that needed to be addressed with the project. The fact that we were developing a plastic chair raised fundamental questions about why and how. In designing the chair, we started to explore the use of recycled plastics. This then sparked a discussion about the brand's general attitude towards sustainability and how the chair could become an archetype for future strategies. Our aim was to develop a high quality chair using minimal materials. This goal not only has an ecological impact, but also an economic one - the chair is cheaper. The aim was to make the BELL chair affordable for everyone, and to achieve this we had to find the right balance between technology, performance and aesthetics. BELL shows that you can do things a little differently. Transparency and honesty were essential values of the project , it was important to reveal the whole process and show how we worked, what materials we used."
Material
The Bell Chair is made from recycled polypropylene, which is sourced from waste generated by Magis' own furniture production and the local automotive industry. The patented material is almost exclusively made up of materials that have already been used once and can be 100% recycled again . In this way, Magis has created an almost closed material cycle with the BELL chair. BELL is available in three colours so far.
Minimalism is in!
BELL weighs just 2.7 kilograms, which is at least 1.5 kilograms lighter than the average plastic chair. This fact shows that less material has been used in its production and therefore less energy is consumed. The key to this saving lies in the ingenious shell shape of the chair; its bulbous geometry is structurally strong, but also makes the chair extremely comfortable and visually appealing.
