Charles a Ray Eamesovi

Two names that are unmissable in the design world - Charles and Ray Eames. The Eameses are among the most important figures in 20th century design. Arguably the most influential American architect and designer of the 20th century, Charles Eames was born in 1907 in St. Louis, Missouri, and studied architecture at Washington University in St. Louis. Ray Eames was born in Sacramento in 1912 as Bernice Alexandra Kaiser. Her extraordinary talent for drawing emerged at the age of three. In 1939, she first studied painting with Hans Hofmann and then enrolled in a four-month design course at Cranbrook Academy. There she not only worked with Eero Saarinen, but also met Charles Eames.

Together they launched an unprecedented career - creating a number of furniture pieces that are still among the world's top designers today, including the PIUMA plastic chairs for Kartell and others. In addition to designing furniture, they also made films, took photographs and held exhibitions.
