Fabian Schwaerzler

Fabian Schwaerzler began his formal education as a designer after completing a thorough metalworking apprenticeship, which provided him with a solid foundation for his further professional development. The skills and experience gained in the workshop served him well not only during his industrial design studies at the Zurich University of the Arts, which he completed in 2003, but even more so during his subsequent two-year collaboration with Belgian furniture designer Maarten van Severen. This experience allowed him to hone his craftsmanship skills, particularly in the surface treatment of aluminium and the welding of solid aluminium. He also expanded his knowledge of materials - aluminium, wood, steel and leather.

As a member of Vitra's product development team, Schwaerzler was able to further develop his industrial design skills. In his studio in Zurich, he currently works as an independent designer at the interface between craftsmanship and industrial series production. Another important area of interest is the design and production of custom pieces for private buyers looking for tasteful contemporary pieces. Schwaerzler enjoys creating exclusive pieces as they show his combined talents as a designer and craftsman at their best and allow him to realise designs at the highest level. Colos, for example, for whom he designed the minimalist C1 collection, can enjoy a collaboration with this renowned designer.
