Jasper Morrison
Jasper Morrison was born in 1959 in London. He studied at Kingston Polytechnic Design School in London, then at The Royal College of Art. In 1986 Jasper Morrison established his own studio in London and later a branch in Paris. As part of his philosophy and approach to design, he seeks to improve, refine, interpret and build on classic tried and tested things in his designs. Morrison's early projects that gained attention include the interior installations of the Reuters News Center included in the Documenta 8 exhibition in Kassel. These projects were characterized by an austere concept with objects of strictly reduced forms, representing a reaction to the formal excesses of postmodernism.
Jasper Morrison became a leading figure in the so-called "New Simplicity" movement, which advocated a more serious approach to design. His work, encompassing a wide range of furniture, lighting, accessories and textiles, is characterised by simplicity, stripped of anything that would disturb the impression of clean lines and uncomplicated shapes. He now works with major companies from the design world such as Alessi, Vitra, Magis, Cappellini, FSB, Rosenthal, Andreu World, Rowenta and Olivetti.
