Joan Gaspar

Joan Gaspar studied industrial design at the Artes y Oficios school in Barcelona. In 1988 he started working for VAPOR S.A, a company that produced minimalist lighting fixtures. Since 1992 he has worked with a number of companies to create new product lines (Mery S.A, Industries Conesa S.A, Manufactures Rocal S.A, Santa & Cole S.A, B-Lux, Sellex, Daisalux S.A). Later he worked closely with Marset Iluminacin, developing new products and product lines for them. His work has been selected for awards at FAD on a number of occasions. In 1995, he won first prize in the Comunidad Castilla la Mancha furniture competition and in 2000 he won at the Valencia International Furniture Fair. A year later, he was awarded the Delta de Plata Silver Trophy for the Atlas range of lamps designed for Marset Iluminacin.

Since 1998 he has been teaching materials and technologies applied to industrial design at the Elisava Design School in Barcelona. In 2002 he opened a professional design studio in Barcelona, working with various companies on new product concepts. Since 2003 he has been leading project courses at the EINA School of Art and Design in Barcelona. His work has been published in many national and international design magazines. In 2003, the editors of Phaidon magazine included various of his products in the book "SPOON" about the best new young industrial designers in the world.
