Maciej Karpiak


Maciej Karpiak, born in 1977, graduated with honours from the Faculty of Interior Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Szczecin. During his studies, he was awarded three Presidential Scholarships for artistically talented people. As a student he was repeatedly awarded in Polish and international design competitions. In 2003 he was the first Pole in history to present prototypes of his furniture at SaloneSatellite in Milan. Since 2004 he has been running his own multidisciplinary design studio Office for Design Maciej Karpiak and is the author of more than a hundred registered industrial designs, several hundred realisations in the field of interior design, furniture design and architectural concepts.

In 2005-2009 he won numerous prizes and awards in competitions for the best product and best industrial design. Since 2010, he has been the owner and chief designer of the Nuuun kitchen brand. In 2015, he won the top prize for his design of the Wall Kitchen in the Interior Innovation Award competition organised by IMM Cologne under the auspices of the German-Design-Council. He was the first designer in Poland to develop designs and participate in the development of technology for mass production of mobile homes. Since 2015 he is CEO and founder of the biotechnology company Spiruu, where he creates innovative bioreactor technologies and designs ultra-modern multimedia devices of the future. For his concept of a bioreactor for the home cultivation of spirulina, he and Spiruu were nominated and advanced to the finals of the 2016 Millennium Technology Prize, the equivalent of the Nobel Prize for the future technology with the greatest impact on people's lives.
