Makio Hasuike

Makio Hasuike was born on January 20, 1938 in Tokyo. He graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts in 1962 and began his professional career in Japan by working for a year for watch manufacturer Seiko: he designed a set of clocks and timers for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. In 1968 he founded his own studio in Milan, one of the first industrial design studios in Italy. The company, which is still active today, is a rare example of a successful design company. In more than 40 years of activity, it has collaborated with several Italian and international companies in different sectors, contributing to their success through design solutions that are innovative in terms of appearance and content.

Makio Hasuike & Co. works in a wide range of design: from high-tech tools and instruments to work and leisure accessories, from small and large household appliances to furniture and home accessories, from brand identity and packaging to exhibition design. His projects have won numerous prestigious awards and recognitions, such as "Compasso d'oro", "Macef", "Triennale", "Smau", "Bio" (Ljubljana), "Design plus" (Frankfurt), "Design Preis" (Stuttgart), "Design Innovation" (Essen), and continue to be exhibited in permanent exhibitions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. He has been frequently invited to give courses and lectures at many conferences and international conventions and has taught at the University of Industrial Design in Milan. He has also pursued interior design work for Fiam and Metalmobil.
