Mario Botta
Mario Botta was born in 1943 in Mendrisio, Ticino. After his apprenticeship in Lugano, he first attended the art school in Milan and then studied at the University Institute of Architecture in Venice. He started his professional activity in 1970 in Lugano. Since then he has taught, lectured, given seminars and courses at many schools of architecture in Europe, Asia, the United States and Latin America.
He started with houses in Ticino, but his work has developed into many other building typologies such as schools, banks, office buildings, libraries, museums and houses of worship. His work is recognized worldwide and has been featured in many exhibitions. Important to him, as he says, are gravity, colour, texture and material and stories.
