Massimo Iosa Ghini


Italian architect Massimo Iosa Ghini, born in Bologna in 1959, became known mainly for co-founding the avant-garde conceptual movement Bolidismo. He has been part of the Memphis group since 1985 and has always gravitated towards experimentation and innovation in the fields of design, architecture and communication. He has worked as a consultant, produced sets and graphics for television shows, created product design, interiors, furniture, exhibition design and the look of commercial buildings, museums, train stations, retail chains and other public spaces. He has been awarded many honourable mentions and design awards for his work. These include the Compasso D'Oro Award ADI, Good Design Award, Red Dot Award and others. He was also honored with an exhibition dedicated to the first three decades of his work organized by the most renowned institution of Italian design, La Triennale di Milano. In 2017, during the Italian Design Day, he was named "Ambassador of Italian Design".


His firm Iosa Ghini Associati, founded in 1990, has worked on commissions for world-renowned brands. European, American and Asian Ferrari outlets, hotels, airport surfaces for Alitalia, the Hanover metro station, the Giorgio Morandi House Museum and many other projects bear traces of his unique handwriting. Product design began with the creation of the iconic Otello chair, the Roy table and the Juliette chair in the 1980s. Over the following years, his creativity has been used by many major brands. Moroso and the famous New Tone sofa, Poltrona Frau and the Alo swivel chair, Cassina and the Leggero sofa, Natuzzi and the Sinuosa collection or Fiam and the Dorian mirror. All of these will be among the constants adorning interiors all over the world.
