Michael Anastassiades
Michael Anastassiades was born in Cyprus. He studied industrial design and engineering at the Royal College of Art and Imperial College and has worked with many of the world's leading architects throughout his career, including David Chipperfield and John Pawson. Michael is particularly renowned for his lighting products, including innovative floor lamps and pendant lights. He often chooses reflective materials such as mirrored glass and polished bronze, which seem to dematerialise his objects - they float and interact freely with the space that surrounds them.
His lights can be seen in hotels, restaurants and shops around the world, including the Grand Hotel Stockholm, Soho House New York and Sergio Rossi boutiques. In 1994, he founded his London design studio and began working with many renowned companies. His practice encompasses both industrial production and artisanal techniques. With a career spanning over 20 years, Michael has created lighting, furniture and objects that are characterised by a poetic yet rigorous interpretation of technology, materials and functionality. His work draws inspiration from the archaic legacies of his native Cyprus, the history of modernism, personal memories, or art and everyday life. Michael transforms this rich set of diverse references into a timeless form and structure from which he creates his designs.
