Naoto Fukusawa
Fukasawa was born in Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan in 1956. He graduated from Tama Art University in 1980 with a degree in product design. After graduation, Fukasawa worked as a product developer at Seiko Epson and later founded the IDEO Tokyo office. During this time, he collaborated with English industrial designer Sam Hecht. In 2002, Fukasawa joined the MUJI advisory board and worked on the development of many of its products.
Naoto Fukasawa's approach to design focuses on the relationship between design and behavior, using terms such as "design dissolving into behavior," "center of conscience," "normality," "contour," and "archetype" to describe his approach. His approach is based on observing how people act and react on a daily basis, and finding solutions in this behaviour that connect the design to the person. In recent years he has published a number of new works with Italian companies B&B Italia, Driade, Magis, Artemide, Danese and Boffi, for which he has received much attention.
