Romano Marcato
Romano Marcato was born in 1951 in Cadoneghe, a few kilometres from Padua. In 1979 he founded Lapalma with his brother Dario . He drew on his knowledge of metalwork and designed his first products based on his personal taste. For many years, Romano Marcato has been choosing the designers with whom to collaborate and has overseen the development and design of all products, including the most futuristic ones. He has also designed some of Lapalma's most popular products, including the BRUNCH and PANCO tables, the WIL bar stool, the BRIO and YO tables and the ARIA chair.
Marcato's path to design was through engineering. In 1970 he obtained his high school diploma at the Istituto Tecnico Industriale in Padua, specialising in mechanical engineering. From 1970 to 1978 he was in charge of design in the leading small metal parts sector, designing high-speed cutting tools for electrical terminals. Thanks to his extensive knowledge of precision engineering and complex high-speed production systems, Romano Marcato designed automatic machines and systems for the automotive and electronic industries.
