Stefano Getzel
Stefano Getzel was born in 1958. After studying architecture, art and philosophy in the United States at Cornell University, Cooper Union and Columbia, he worked in the fields of architecture, painting and design, combining them into a multi-disciplinary practice and methods. During and after his studies, he worked in New York on the architecture firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and collaborated on projects with R. De Armas at the Haj Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, among others. He later joined Aldo Rossi in Milan, collaborating on the Canareggio master plan in Venice, the schools in Broni and the office tower in Melbourne, Australia.
Returning to Italy, he opened his own multi-disciplinary firm, Getzel Design Studio , and his projects ranged from architecture and industrial design to applied art and graphic projects. He began working with European furniture manufacturers. For Luxy he designed the EPOCA, BIG JIM and ARROW collections, among others. Other works include the Aire chair, which won the Best of Show Award at Neocon 2001 as the best office seating furniture. His design for Pixel won Comfort & Seating - 1st prize for ergonomic excellence in 2009. He also collaborated with Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas on the Bea chair, which was awarded Comfort & Seating - 1st Prize for Innovation in 2009.
