Tomás Alonso

The Spanish-born designer has been pursuing a career in design since the age of 19. He has lived, studied and worked in the USA, Italy and Australia before moving to London to complete his MA at the Royal College of Art. Tomás Alonso skilfully crosses the boundaries between art and design. The hallmarks of his design are elegance, functionality and above all innovation. His work has been widely published and exhibited from the Design Museum to the Aram Gallery and Whitechapel Gallery in London to exhibitions in Italy, Spain, France, Canada and Japan.

Alonso was recently included in the permanent collection of the Museum of the Scarecrow in London. He has also won a number of international awards, including first prize in the 2008 Promosedia International Design Competition with his chair #7. He enjoys experimenting with different materials to make the most of their properties and to find new ways of creating structure.
